One of my dreams as a kid was to build race car aerodynamic parts.
With the inspiration from many import car magazines, websites and experience at RISD, I decided to tackle a personal project of my own.
This project included many initial sketches and renderings to gain a desired design of the front bumper I planned to fabricate.
A buck or plug was then made of various materials to gain a crisp and clean form. Then a negative mold was created from this form out of fiberglass.
I had planned to cast my first bumper out of fiberglass as well, but my ideas changed after I began research in a innovative studio, encorporating sustainable design and living.
I casted the first bumper from paper pulp, which was sourced from different trash bins, and a adhesive binder as well as a sealer for the outside surfaces.
